4 years on, I'm still not sure how it all started... In August 2005 I started blogging in French as "MoiAussi". It was all fun, very light in terms of the subjects I was covering but very soon as I got addicted to blogging. I didn't start blogging to meet new friends. But soon I started meeting other bloggers in Paris and ended up creating myself a brand new network and meeting some people I would have not otherwise met. Some of them are now very good friends !
Very soon also, because of my marketing background I suppose, I started writing post about marketing on my blogs. I became fascinated by social media as a tool/media for marketers. When it came to launching the Renault Twingo Concept in Paris is September 2006, I used my knowledge of the blogosphere and viral marketing to generate word of mouth around the car. Similarly, when we launched the brand New Twingo mid-2007, I coordinated the European launch through social media: we invited bloggers from all over Europe for a weekend in Slovenia to discover the car. At the time, and since January 2007, I had moved (back) to London for professional reasons, to be in charge of Renault UK Small Cars marketing team and strategy for Campus, Clio, Twingo, Modus and Kangoo.
UPDATE: I have resigned from Renault and I have been working (since August 2009) for a social media agency called We Are Social (we help brands to listen, understand and engage in conversations in social media). One of the project I have been working on since I joined We Are Social, for example, is the Ford Fiesta This is Now social media campaign (although I promise I haven't been working on automotive projects!).
I am still fascinated by the overall marketing opportunities on the net. Social Media, Online Communities, Word of Mouth marketing, you've said it all...
But I'm also particularly fascinated by the way social media is currently disrupting the way corporations are organised. One of my favourite quote from social media expert Jeremiah Owyang is one he's tweeted: "your customers don't care which department you work in" - this is so true!
