First UK Twitter Taste Live

Picture 1

Apologies for those of you following me on Twitter - you might have been a little bit surprised by all the comments I "twitted" about Alsacian wines on Thursday night... Turns out I was taking part in the first UK Twitter Taste Live, hosted by Robert McIntosh.

Twitter Taste Live is basically a wine tasting session taking place all over the world at the same time. From a marketing point of view, it's interesting to notice that these events were set up by Bins Ends, a wine retailer. For the second edition of Twitter Taste Live (1st UK session), Bins Ends had chosen the wines of Hugel & Fils from Alsace. They had organised for Mr Hugel himself to Twitter about the wines during the event so that followers could ask him questions, make comments about the wine... A very very good web 2.0 marketing initiative !!!

I didn't really know what to expect when I turned up at Robert's place along with my brother Jeremy - currently on holidays in London- so I couldn't believe it when I discovered that perfect host Robert, assisted by wine blogger Andrew, had cooked a 5-course meal to go with the wine tasting of Alsacian wine Hugel & Fils. I had a fab night, still cannot believe how fantastic the food was (loved the scallops !) and of course, we all drank some really nice wine ;-)

I'm ususally not so much into white wines but as soon as they're a bit sweet (or even better: really sweet), I love them. So Alsacian white wine was perfect for me. We tasted 5 different Huge & Fils wines: Les Fleurs d’Alsace (2006), Pinot Blanc (2006), Gewürztraminer (2005), Riesling Jubilee (2004) and Gewürztraminer Vendage Tardive 2001. I must say my favorite one was the Gewürztraminer Vendage Tardive. Sweet, fruity... Nice !

Thanks again to Robert and Andrew. Also thanks to AnnieMole, Lea, Laurence, Jeremy, James, Niahm, Kai and his brilliant pictures from the evening !

More info about the event: here and more photos here.

ps: currently writing this blog post live from my new local restaurant The Dinner in Shoreditch ;-)

ps2: first picture is from the magazine Springwise
