Universal McCann has just published its third Social Media Tracker analysis (17,000 internet users interviewed in 29 countries) and if you haven't seen it yet, here are some of the highlights I picked up from the 80-pages-long report:
- The number of bloggers worldwide has grown to 184 millions (!)
- China has the largest bloggers community in the world (42 millions with an Internet penetration over there of only 12.3% vs the UK at 66.4% !)
- 34% of bloggers post opinions about product and brands
- 32% of active Internet users say they trust bloggers' opinion on products and services
- 82.9% of active Internet users have already watched a video online and 72.8% have already read a blog
- The UK is the biggest country in Europe in terms of blog readerships with 17.8M readers ie 32% of the population
- In terms of writing blogs, again the UK comes ahead in Europe with 4.3M bloggers ie 12.3% of the population
- Again, not a surprise : the UK is the first country in Europe when it comes to Social Networking with 10.6M users ie 29.1% of the population (currently 9M UK users on Facebook).
Let's face it, if your company is still ignoring what your consumers are saying online, you need to react now: with an increasing number of bloggers and blog readers worldwide talking about your products and brands, you can no longer ignore Social Media (not suggesting that you could before of course !).
Have a look at the study from Universal McCann, it's available here on PFD.
ps: I particularly like Universal McCann's definition of Social Media : "Online applications, platforms and media which aims to facilitate interaction, collaboration and the sharing of content".
Thanks Greg for sharing this analysis !
